2010	Gyaneshwari Express Disaster	170	A Mumbai-bound Howrah Kurla Lokmanya Tilak Gyaneshwari Super Deluxe Express was derailed by an explosion (or sabotage) between Khemashuli and Sardiha in West Midnapore district and got subsequently hit by a goods train. It was suspected to be a Maoist attack.

1999	Gaisal Train Disaster	290	Two trains carrying over 2,500 passengers collided near Gaisal, Assam, . The trains exploded upon collision as it rammed into each other at a very high speed.
1998	Khanna Train Disaster	212	The Kolkata bound Jammu Tawi-Sealdah Express rammed into six derailed Frontier Golden Temple Mail coaches bound for Amritsar near Khanna on the Khanna-Ludhiana section of India's Northern Railway in Punjab.
1995	Firozabad Rail Disaster	358	The incident unraveled when the Kalindi express got stuck on the tracks due to a brake failure after colliding with a cow. The Purushottam Express was allowed to operate on the same track at the same time as a result of which this accident occured.
1988	Peruman Railway Accident	106	A train derailed on the Peruman bridge over Ashtamudi Lake in Kerala and 10 carriages of the train fell into the water.
1981	Bihar Train Disaster	500	Some were of the view that the accident was caused by a cyclone while others claim that it was caused by flash flooding. This tragic accident had been dubbed as one of the most dreadful train accidents in India, if not the most.
